Financial Concerns

For some, job loss brings concerns about money – how to save it, find new sources of income, deal potentially with creditors, and the like. One key step you can take to help you financially is to file for State Unemployment Insurance.

The Unemployment Insurance Program, commonly referred to as UI, provides workers, who lose their jobs through no fault of their own, with weekly unemployment insurance payments. The UI program is 100% funded by employers who pay taxes on wages paid to employees. For more information about UI and how to apply, please visit the State of California Employment Development Department website.

Another way in which you can address financial concerns is to understand your current income and expenses, so that you can determine where you can save money or find extra money. To help you understand and manage your money, please download our "Managing Your Money" guide. The guide can assist you with identifying where you are currently spending your money, and may show you where you can cut out nonessential items so that you can save money for more important expenses.

If you have questions about financial concerns,  please attend our "Mastering Your Money" workshop, which reviews the basics of a spending plan and the ins and outs of credit.

To find out when the next "Mastering Your Money" workshop is occurring, please visit our Job Seeker Events Calendar webpage. This workshop is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
