New Partnership with San Mateo County
NOVA is embarking on an exciting partnership with San Mateo County. This new partnership is in response to San Mateo County’s decision to outsource the administration and provision of its Workforce Investment Act (WIA) services. NOVA and the San Mateo County Workforce Investment Board (WIB) share many common characteristics in demographics, workforce needs and employers and have worked in collaboration on a number of projects in recent years. This relationship, coupled with NOVA’s strong reputation for effective WIA services, led San Mateo County to ask NOVA to manage the County’s WIA operations through June 30, 2015. Under this partnership, NOVA will provide: programmatic and fiscal monitoring; oversee all five of the County’s WIA service provider contracts; perform Rapid Response activities assisting the County’s employers with layoffs; and facilitate regional and community collaboration with San Mateo County’s community stakeholders.
Partnerships among neighboring WIBs is a growing trend nationwide that offer enhanced benefits to job seekers and employers, achieve greater efficiencies, and result in a more seamless and productive service-delivery system. Regional partnerships will also be required under the federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, the new governing legislation for the local workforce investment system.
NOVA’s new partnership with San Mateo County will not impact the exceptional services that NOVA continues to provide to the residents and employers on behalf of its seven-city consortium at the NOVA Job Center in Sunnyvale.
