Spotlight on Board Member Ben Field of the South Bay Labor Council
NOVA Workforce Board member Ben Field is the Executive Officer of the South Bay Labor Council. He oversees all the Labor Council’s activities, including community organizing, union support efforts, public relations, fundraising, political campaigns and government relations. He also works closely with the think tank Working Partnerships USA, which the Labor Council founded 20 years ago, on labor market research. Mr. Field brings to the NOVA Workforce Board the perspective of organized labor and a commitment to increasing living wage jobs with benefits for all workers. He is also an adjunct professor at San Jose State University, where he has taught courses on the U.S. presidency, constitutional law, judicial politics, law and society, and political history.
Mr. Field’s expertise will be invaluable to the Board in strengthening the beneficial ties between the local workforce development system and labor and in supporting career advancement for disadvantaged workers. “In Silicon Valley, we cannot allow working families to be left behind while our economy produces such great wealth,” said Mr. Field. “We in the Labor Movement are working hard to stop the decline of the middle class.” The South Bay Labor Council’s goal is to promote policies and causes that benefit working families. Founded more than 50 years ago, the Labor Council represents 93 unions and over 100,000 union members in Santa Clara and San Benito counties.
