UCSC Extension to Receive California Space Authority
2007 SpotBeam Award

UCSC Extension in Silicon Valley, along with North Valley (NOVA) Workforce Board, will be awarded the 2007 California Space Authority (CSA) Buzz Aldrin Space Education and Workforce SpotBeam Award.

CSA grants SpotBeam Awards to space stakeholders who make extraordinary contribution to California’s leadership in the United States and international space arenas.

CSA selected UCSC Extension and NOVA to receive this award because of their highly successful development of the certificate program in Software Applications for Aerospace and Defense Applications.

This certificate program is meant to help individuals from outside the aerospace and defense sectors rapidly gain the knowledge, skills and insight necessary to work effectively in this growing and highly competitive industry. It involves seven courses that are tailored to fit into the schedules of busy working professionals. Core courses such as Real-Time Embedded Systems Programming, Software Quality and Testing of Embedded Systems, Relational Database Concepts and Agile Modeling with UML are supplemented by aerospace and defense-specific courses such as Understanding Space and Defense/Aerospace Project Management. UCSC Extension’s next offering of the certificate program is January 2008, for more information and enrollment visit, www.ucsc-extension.edu/aerospace

The award will be presented at CSA’s Fourth Annual SpotBeam Awards Dinner to be held Thursday, November 8, 2007, in Los Angeles.

UCSC Extension provides continuing education to the residents of the Bay Area, offering courses in engineering and technology, business and management, education, biosciences and more. UCSC Extension campuses are conveniently located throughout the South Bay Area in Cupertino, Sunnyvale and Santa Cruz. UCSC Extension’s Corporate Training Department will also deliver courses at your workplace.
