State provides $500,000 to help tech workers who've lost their jobs

The state Employment Development Department said it gave a $500,000 grant to help Silicon Valley people who have recently lost their jobs.

The funds went to the North Santa Clara Valley Job Training Consortium to provide career advice, skills preparation, job search assistance, and training.

Most of the workers who will be helped by the program are in the technology industry.

"The Silicon Valley has witnessed a significant increase in the number of individuals affected by layoff," the EDD said in a statement. "With this grant, NOVA will be able to provide more workers with the career assistance they need to find new technical and administrative jobs in growing industries."
