$6M grant for Silicon Valley job help

A $6 million grant from the California Employment Development department will help laid-off Silicon Valley workers find jobs.

The North Santa Clara Valley Job Training Consortium will use the money to help 1,714 laid-off workers with skills training, job search assistance and networking resources over the next ten months.

NOVA, a work force development agency sponsored by the city of Sunnyvale and CONNECT, a collaborative of work force development organizations, has seen the number of job seekers increase 130 percent since the dot-com bust of 2001. With the new funding, NOVA will move unemployed workers into technical and administrative jobs. The organization serves the cities of Sunnyvale, Mountain View, Palo Alto, Los Altos, Santa Clara, Cupertino and Milpitas.
