Software Development for Aerospace and Defense Applications: Certificate Program

University of California Extension, Santa Cruz, introduces this unique training opportunity, in partnership with NOVA, the California Space Authority, and Silicon Valley's aerospace and defense companies.

Background
As many as one-third of aerospace and defense contractors' employees are currently eligible for retirement. Even if downturns occur within the industry, there will still be a critical shortage of workers to fill this gap. Aerospace and defense companies are aggressively recruiting new college graduates, but there's still a high demand for seasoned workers—particularly those from the high-tech sector—who bring skills and experience from a variety of projects and from a team environment.

Program
Classes will begin in late January 2008 and will be held Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Saturdays for four months.

Prerequisites: BA/BS in computer science, engineering, or physics. Experience in C programming language and in the software life cycle is mandatory. Must be a resident of Santa Clara County. Participants must be able to obtain security clearance (primarily U.S. citizenship and a willingness to undergo and pass a background check).

Opportunity
If you have been affected by layoffs in the high-tech sector, then you may be eligible to participate in this certificate program at no cost. The program is also open to fee-paying students who meet the minimal criteria.
