Making
Sense of the Census
January 2003
Using data from the 2000 Census and other resources NOVA staff created "Making Sense of the Census: A look at the demographic, social, and economic characteristics of northern Silicon Valley." This report presents quantitative data in a comparative format on the seven cities that make up the NOVA consortium: Palo Alto, Mountain View, Los Altos, Cupertino, Sunnyvale, Santa Clara, and Milpitas. The report sheds light on the state of industry and on the existing and potential labor market as identified by the 2000 Census.
This report is a compilation of success stories from Workforce Investment Boards in California, Oregon and Washington. The stories demonstrate the positive impacts of local Workforce Investment Boards on American businesses and workers throughout the nation. The report includes perspectives from these local companies: Solectron Corp. in Milpitas, Lockheed Martin Missiles and Space Operations in Sunnyvale, Kaiser Permanente in the South Bay Area, Network Appliance in Sunnyvale, and Granite Construction Company in Santa Cruz.
These reports provide in-depth information on a particular industry, focusing on the industry's workforce needs, typical job positions, and the responsibilities, skills, and education required. Additional information on anticipated job growth and where to obtain the necessary education and skills make these ideal resources for job seekers and businesses alike.
