Meet NOVA's Business Liaisons

The Business Services Unit of NOVA recently streamlined operations to better serve its corporate clients. And, with the addition of two new Business Liaisons in January, it is now easier than ever to obtain assistance with staffing, employee training, layoff support, or employee retention.

Here are just a few accomplishments from NOVA Business Services:

1. Recruitment presentations held at NOVA's Connect! Job Seeker Center have helped meet the staffing goals for nineteen companies in the past six months. These companies represented industries such as biotech, computers, retail, event planning, and staffing agencies. These were extremely successful events with a total of 487 job seekers in attendance.

2. With recent layoffs, 40 companies in the past six months have benefited from NOVA Business Services, which has supported companies with pre-layoff planning, workshops, and counseling for affected employees. In some cases, NOVA has teamed with California's Employment Development Department or private outsource agencies, such as Right Management, to provide outplacement services to employees.

3. In July 2004, NOVA had the prestigious honor of showcasing its Values-Driven Work initiative at the National Career Development Association Conference with a presentation entitled: "Using Values to Awaken the Holistic Spirit in Career Development." Nearly 1,000 career development professionals attended this event.

4. NOVA's Business Services Unit has helped implement the Values-Driven Work instrument to build job satisfaction, productivity and retention at companies and universities. It has also collaborated with the City of Sunnyvale's Economic Development Department to survey Sunnyvale businesses on how the City can more effectively recruit and support biotechnology companies.
