LinkedIn Community Day for NOVA
Since 2010, LinkedIn for Good Foundation has organized a day of giving one Friday a month, referred to as “inDay”, as an opportunity for LinkedIn employees to take a break from their usual responsibilities to give back to the community. On July 18, LinkedIn selected NOVA as the focus of their “inDay” for July. Held at the Jewish Vocational Services in Palo Alto, LinkedIn employees from its Global Talent Organization contributed their time for a one to one coaching session to assist NOVA job seekers improve their LinkedIn profiles that will move them closer to their dream jobs. Leading up to the event, interest from job seekers was overwhelming, with all 140 available slots given out in just six hours, and this excitement continued throughout the morning of the event. The event kicked off with a presenter from LinkedIn welcoming the group and sharing her personal experience with a family member who utilized NOVA services following a layoff, which was followed by an overview of the key features of the LinkedIn social media site and how to create a profile. LinkedIn employees then teamed up with NOVA customers for a personal critique of their profile and job search strategies. Overall, this special “inDay” event was a big success and will go a long way to preparing NOVA customers for today’s job market.
As a follow-up to the event, participants were surveyed regarding their level of satisfaction with the event, with a 98% approval rating for getting the information they needed and a 100% approval rating for the quality of the information provided. Among the many positive comments received included: “I am so excited about my new profile and the new tools I learned. I learned how to better use my network and how to better search for a job using LinkedIn's tools. Watching the LinkedIn team work with job seekers was very inspiring. It was amazing to feel the LinkedIn experts sincerely wanting to help us. Novaworks is only a few miles away from LinkedIn's Sunnyvale office and the whole concept of LinkedIn partnering with job seekers was incredible! Thank you Novaworks! Thank you LinkedIn! You are a team.”
LinkedIn, headquartered in Mountain View, with a new office in Sunnyvale, has been a strong supporter of NOVA, awarding NOVA a grant through its LinkedIn for Good Foundation earlier this year, and is now represented on the NOVA Workforce Board.
